Reasons To Undergo The NYC SST 8 Hour Refresher Training
Workplace safety is essential to ensure one’s well-being. Sure, many areas of work are prone to various risks with the people attending to specific tasks sustaining injuries and even losing their lives. Such people need to undertake a special training course related to the risks associated with NYC sites. The requirement stated in the local Law 196 of 2017 necessitates that all workers, supervisors, and managers working in all five boroughs of NYC be recommended to undergo additional training. Moreover, the trained workforce is expected to undergo the NYC SST 8 hour refresher training course afterward.
It is most important to know that the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB)’s Local Law 196 requires all individuals working on construction sites across NYC with a site safety plan to take an 8-hour refresher course every 5 years after receiving the training. The trained SST worker will be equipped with the following after the refresher training course, which includes:
l 4-Hour Fall Prevention – 0.4 CEUs
l 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User and Refresher – 0.4 CEUs
The primary purpose of this refresher course is to renew the knowledge and update the safety practices as needed. The construction workers may also renew their SST cards with compliance and expertise related to safety practices at their job sites being fulfilled.
All workers working in specific construction sites located in any of the five boroughs of NYC are well advised to go for the refresher training course for the following reasons:
Need for Renewal—Local Law 196, related to New York City, explicitly states that all construction workers and supervisors must earn an SST card to qualify for working on major building projects within the five boroughs of NYC. The card remains valid for five years, and the cardholder needs to renew it by undergoing the 8-hour refresher training course.
Updated Knowledge—While it is important to renew the SST card, a worker must also be aware of the latest safety practices and related legal matters. A refresher course can help one recollect and update one's knowledge. With the hazards being revised once again, OSHA recommends that every worker take the refresher course at the right time, thus lowering the risks and enhancing safety when on the job.
Compliance with Regulatory Standards—NYC's construction workers can remain compliant with the regulations in place. Hiring a worker with an SST card enables the builder/developer to meet the requirements as well. The trained workers are in demand across NYC and find suitable employment without facing any challenges.
Workplace Safety—Well, this is the chief reason for taking the training. It enables the project owner, builder, or developer to hire workers who are well-informed about safety practices and risk mitigation. This fosters a safe and secure work environment and ensures the project is completed on time.
The NYC SST 8-hour refresher training course allows the trained workers to maintain their certification, allowing them to continue working on construction sites for many years.
