Part 48 covers the conventional mining operation safety, however. The hazards in underground mines are different from those encountered in surface mining. The training topics are varied, with each miner being able to distinguish between the two.

Who requires the training?

The MSHA recommends supervisors, new surface miners, and contractors to undergo the new miner training Part 46 before beginning their jobs. Moreover, the trained personnel must undergo a refresher training course every year.
